Here are some tips to help you do so:. Place candles away from flammable materials, including curtains, furniture, and other items.. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.. Use a proper candle holder that can contain the melted wax and catch any falling embers.. Extinguish candles when you leave the room or go to sleep.. Trim your candle wicks to 1/4 inch before lighting them so they will burn more slowly and evenly.. Do not move a lit candle.. Never use water to extinguish a candle.. Do not burn multiple candles close together; they can create too much heat and become a fire hazard.. For outdoor candles, make sure they are placed in a sheltered area away from the wind.. Always use caution when lighting and extinguishing a candle.. Following these guidelines will help ensure that you enjoy the beauty of candles without putting your safety at risk.
