Internally fresh and clean. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "To Captain N.W. Thompson, With the Sincerest regards of Frederick D Greene. May 10, 1913". Greene spent nearly four years as a missionary in the Armenian town of Van, where he witnessed Ottoman atrocities against the Armenian community. This book, dedicated to the victims of the Sassoun massacre in 1894, reflects Greene's attempt to persuade the United States and European powers to intervene. Greene published a subsequent, high popularized account in 1896 under the title "Armenian Massacres, or the Sword of Mohammed". This original 1894 book, however, has a more scholarly tone and is significantly scarcer.
